And the Grammy goes to … Iron Maiden.
Jackson fans will be delighted to note that Iron Maiden was officially lauded for Best Metal Performance at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 13. It was the 35-year-old band’s first Grammy win.
Maiden took the trophy for “El Dorado,” a track from 2010 album The Final Frontier. The band has been nominated for a Grammy twice before over the course of its long career; first in 1994 for “Fear of the Dark” and again in 2001 for “The Wicker Man.”
“El Dorado” won out over heavy competition in the form of Megadeth’s “Sudden Death,” Slayer’s “World Painted Blood,” Lamb of God’s “In Your Words” and Korn’s “Let the Guilt Go.”
In other Iron Maiden news, the band is scheduled to headline summer 2011 Sonisphere Festival dates in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic. Maiden will also headline the Nova Rock Festival in Austria in June 2011 and the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium in July 2011. An Aug. 6, 2011, show at London’s O2 Arena will mark the end of the Final Frontier world tour.
