Heads-up on Hatebreed: There’s a lot going on with the hardcore Connecticut quintet these days, not the least of which is the May 5 release of 18-song covers-only disc For the Lions, the return of original guitarist Wayne Lozinak and the May 14 start of work on the band’s next studio album.
For the Lions is a crushing collection of covers, with five digital singles rolled out consecutively on iTunes leading up to the album release date. The first four are already out—“Thirsty & Miserable” (Black Flag), “Suicidal Maniac” (Suicidal Tendencies), “Shut Me Out” (Sick of it All) and “Ghosts of War” (Slayer). “Escape” (Metallica) will be released April 28. Hatebreed’s video for “Ghosts of War” (see it below) premiered in early April on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball.
Each digital track purchased will count toward the iTunes “complete my album” initiative in which the more music customers buy, the less they’ll pay for the full album on May 5.

Guitarist Lozinak has returned to the fold after the February 2009 departure of Sean Martin, and Jackson is delighted to report that Lozinak is wielding an SL2H Soloist™ model these days. Bassist Chris Beattie’s Jackson signature model, the aptly named Chris Beattie Signature Bass, was introduced in early 2005.
“When Hatebreed first started I played a Jackson/Charvel,” Lozinak said. “Now, almost 15 years later, I’m back in the band and still playing Jackson guitars. Whether it’s tight rhythms or shredding solos, nothing else plays as smooth and clean as a Jackson—the original high performance guitar.”
Hatebreed returns to the studio on May 14 to start of work on the band’s next album.
