Def Leppard have released a new video for their third single “Man Enough” off their latest self-titled album.
Directed by Frank Gryner, the futuristic video features a well-dressed band coordinated in dark ensembles that fade into a black background, while high-tech graphics flash across the screen. Clips of female robots are intercut with frames of each band member morphing into the spotlight.
Guitarist Phil Collen talked to TeamRock about the creative process behind the song.
“I had this bass riff floating around my head, and I wanted it to have a similar vibe to ‘Billy Jean’ by Michael Jackson — almost a disco vibe,” said Collen. “I didn’t know what it was going to be called, then I played it to Joe [Elliott, vocals]; we went to [drummer] Rick Allen’s 50th birthday, and he said, ‘Shit! I’ve got a great idea for this song! And it’s called ‘Are You Man Enough To Be My Girl’. People have said it reminds them of ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ by Queen. It has this dancey appeal.”
