In Guitar World‘s August issue, Anthrax guitarist and Jackson signature artist Scott Ian recalls his early beginnings in thrash metal and the defining moment when thrash metal became the undisputed king of heavy metal.
As GW notes, it occurred on June 28, 1991 when Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth headlined a sold-out show at New York’s Madison Square Garden — a night that was billed as the Clash of the Titans.
Ian said he knew the tour was going to be huge the moment he heard of the touring offer.
“We were sitting in a dressing room in Cincinnati after a gig earlier that year, and our tour manager came in and told us we had gotten an offer to go out on the road with Slayer and Megadeth,” Ian recalls for Guitar World. “I was fucking pumped, because I knew it was going to be a pretty awesome thing.”
And it was.
