Periphery’s highly anticipated new album Periphery III: Select Difficulty will be released on July 22 via Sumerian Records.
The new effort follows up the band’s double concept album Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega. But fans shouldn’t expect more of the same with the latest effort as the band took a very different approach to writing the new material.
“Juggernaut was more about creating a mood and setting,” Misha Mansoor told Guitar World magazine. “This time, we were back in the mood to riff it up again. We knew right from the start we didn’t want to do another concept album.”
According to Mansoor, the band had intended to keep the album “short and sweet,” however “the songs definitely came out a lot longer than I expected. And there’s an epic vibe to them, with a lot of orchestral stuff going on, which is kind of a new element for us.”
Periphery will headline a month-long tour in late summer to support the new release. It kicks off in Atlanta, with supporting acts SikTh, Chon and Toothgrinder. Dates here.
